5 Ways To Avoid Pre-Wedding Bloat!

Hello Brides! We’re starting a new column on the blog that we think you’ll enjoy. We found a fitness expert who helps brides look their absolute best for their wedding day and she agreed to share some tips with everyone. As always, we’d love your feedback. Without further ado, here’s Ashley Drummonds!

It is the final week of your wedding prep and at this point all you are concerned about is looking absolutely fabulous in that stunning dress you have spent your whole life dreaming about. You have worked hard and spent all these months planning your Big Day so the last thing you want is to feel bloated or “squooshy” walking down the aisle. There are a lot of different things you can to make sure you look fresh and tight in your wedding dress! A lot of my bridal fitness clients do great through their program, but make a few common mistakes the last week before their wedding so I am going to give you 5 tips I recommend to all my brides to keep from holding on to any extra water weight and to eliminate bloat!

TIP 1:

Eliminate all extra sodium from your diet the last week. Extra salt intake causes your body to retain water and hold on to extra body fat leaving you with the weighed down feeling and extra squoosh around the mid-section so best thing to do is keep from adding extra salt to your foods and try to stick with salt-free seasonings like Mrs. Dash, Lemon Juice, Paprika, and fresh herbs!

Tip 2:

Avoid artificial sweeteners! We all do diet soda’s, sugar substitutes and try to cut calories any way we can, but when trying to prep for your big day or for an event sometimes these sugar alcohols cause us to bloat up from the different chemical mixes and making it harder for us to drop those last few pounds. Even the sugar substitutes in gum and mints can do this to you so cut back if not completely eliminate the artificial sweeteners this last week.

Tip 3:

Avoid Alcohol as much as possible. Now I know that the bachelorette party always takes place the last week of the wedding so you probably won’t be eliminating alcohol completely, but I always tell my brides if you are going to have a night of drinking make sure it’s a FEW days before your actual wedding day and not the night before. Your body holds extra fat when you consume alcohol and extra water so the first day or two after a night of drinking you will hold an extra 1-3lbs of water weight and bloat. You want to give yourself a few days to let your body re-adjust after all the extra sugars and alcohol. If you do decide to drink, stick with clear liquors like Vodka and Rum with low calorie mixers like soda water, cranberry juice, and diet soda so you don’t take in hundreds of extra calories from your drinking.

Tip 4:

Cut out your fruit after 3:00pm the last week. Fruit is a great source of nutrients, but some fruits have a ton of hidden carbs and sugar in them. With any fitness model, fitness competitor, or bride I coach, I always eliminate fruit weeks before their event to cut out extra sugars the body tends to hold as far.

Tip 5:

DRINK LOTS OF WATER. For a lot of you, I am sure this seems like an oxymoron to consume more water to eliminate water, but one of the reasons your body actually holds on to all that extra water weight is because you are not giving it enough to stay in flushing mode. You want to consume at least 1-1.5 gallons of water that week if not on a regular basis. You will be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes, but this is a good sign that your body is flushing out water weight!
